‘Safa Himal’ team reaches Everest BC

KATHMANDU: Team members of Safa Himal 2024, a mountain clean-up campaign initiated by the Nepal Army, has reached the Everest Base Camp.

Issuing a statement, Nepal Army said the team members reached the Everest Base Camp (5364 meters) on Sunday.

The team left Kathmandu for Syangboche on April 14.

Earlier, the team held a coordination meeting with different organizations like Sagarmatha National Park Office, Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee, Sagarmatha National Park Buffer Zone Management Committee, local bodies and other stakeholders at Namche Bazaar.

According to the statement, the team members also collected garbage from the trail to Everest Base Camp from Namche Bazaar.

“The team will begin the clean-up campaign after acclimatizing at the base camp for a few days,” it added.

Organized with the theme ‘an endeavor to save the Himalayas’, the campaign is targeting to collect 10 tons of garbage and five bodies from the climbing route to Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse summits.
