Yeti Airlines plane crash: Insurance surveyors arrive in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: A team of insurance surveyors and legal professionals has arrived in Nepal to assess the damage caused by the Yeti Airlines plane crash in Pokhara on Sunday.

The Nepal Insurance Authority Spokesperson, Raju Raman Paudel, informed that a team of surveyors from Singapore and a team of legal professionals from India arrived in Kathmandu on Monday. A British insurance broker company has appointed a surveyor from Singapore to assess the damage.

Poudel also stated that there will be no problem with the payment of insurance claims of the passengers involved in the accident.

A meeting of the National Disaster Reduction and Management Authority held on Monday instructed officials to facilitate the payment of insurance to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident. The Authority is also making sure that all the necessary documents are collected in order to make the process of claims as smooth as possible.

“A post-mortem report is required for insurance payment. Such reports can be issued from Kathmandu as well as Pokhara. We have also informed the Authority that there will be no problem in the payment of claims,” Poudel added.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, each passenger is insured for $20,000. The insurance amount for crew members varies depending on the airline.

All four crew members and 68 passengers on the Yeti Airlines plane that crashed in Pokhara on Sunday have been confirmed dead. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
