Yam Lal Kandel appointed Karnali Chief Minister

SURKHET: Yamlal Kandel of CPN-UML has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Karnali.

Province Chief Tilak Pariyar appointed Kandel to the position on Tuesday evening.

Earlier in the day, Kandel staked a claim for government formation in Karnali Province with the signatures of 23 members.

Kandel has the support of nine provincial assembly members from UML, 13 from CPN (Maoist Center), and one from CPN (Unified Socialist).

The Karnali Province Assembly comprises 40 members.

Kandel replaces Rajkumar Sharma of CPN (Maoist Center) as the Chief Minister of Karnali Province, who stepped down from the position last week as part of the new power-sharing deal between coalition partners UML, Maoist Center, Janata Samajbadi Party, and Unified Socialist.
