Wild elephant found dead in Morang

ITAHARI: A male wild elephant has been found dead in Morang district.

According to Lal Bahadur Majhi, chief of the Sub-Division Forest Office Salakpur, the male elephant, aged 15-20 years, was discovered dead at Janajagaran Community Forest in Munaljhoda in Sundar Haraicha-10 of Morang on Monday morning. “It seems that the elephant was shot. The assailants had severed its tail and taken it with them,” Majhi added.

Majhi said that the police and forest office officials have begun a manhunt to apprehend the assailants.

Different herds of wild elephants that entered Nepal from India have been creating havoc in Koshi Province. So far, the wild tuskers have claimed seven lives – five in Jhapa and one each in Morang and Sunsari.
