West Indies names strong ‘A’ team for Nepal tour

KATHMANDU: West Indies has named a 15-member ‘A’ team under the captaincy of Roston Chase for the Nepal tour that kicks off on Saturday.

The West Indies ‘A’ team is scheduled to play five T20 matches with the Nepali national team.

The Caribbean side’s ‘A’ team features experienced T20 players such as Fabian Allen, Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher and Hayden Walsh. Captain Chase has played 49 test, 45 ODI and 11 T20I matches for the West Indies. In his last T20I against Australia, he scored 37 and then took two wickets giving 19 runs.

West Indies Coach Daren Sammy told ICC Cricket that he was confident that the five-game series against the Rhinos would help the side define roles and gauge their depth. “From a coaching perspective, the Nepal tour couldn’t have come at a more opportune time,” Sammy said. “It offers us a chance to refine our [T20] World Cup squad, defining roles and personnel more clearly. Additionally, with nine players in the IPL, we can truly gauge and push the limits of our T20 team’s depth.”

Nepal is yet to announce its squad for the series against West Indies ‘A’.

Roston Chase (c), Alick Athanaze (vc), Fabian Allen, Kadeem Alleyne, Joshua Bishop, Keacy Carty, Johnson Charles, Mark Deyal, Andre Fletcher, Matthew Forde, Obed McCoy, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Oshane Thomas and Hayden Walsh.
