West Indies A levels series 1-1 after 10-run win over Nepal

KATHMANDU: West Indies ‘A’ leveled the five-match T20 series against Nepal, defeating the hosts by 10 runs in the second match at the TU International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Batting first, West Indies ‘A’ scored 160 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Needing 161 runs to go 2-0 up in the series, Nepal was bowled out for 150 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

Although the visitors lost both their openers with just 18 runs on the board, Andre Fletcher (43 off 36 balls) and Captain Roston Chase (23 off 22 balls) built a solid partnership. West Indies ‘A’ lost its other wickets cheaply. However, Gudakesh Motie played an unbeaten knock of 33 runs from just 8 balls to help West Indies ‘A’ post a competitive total.

Sagar Dhakal and Kushal Bhurtel claimed two wickets each for Nepal, while Sompal Kami and Dipendra Singh Airee bagged a wicket apiece.

Nepal, who successfully chased a 200-plus score in the first match of the series, was lackluster in the chase. Kushal Bhurtel continued his poor form, scoring just 2 runs off 8 balls. Lokesh Bam, who looked promising initially, suffered an injury and lost his wicket after returning from treatment, scoring 17 runs off 16 balls. Anil Sah contributed only 1 run. Rohit Paudel continued his rich form in the second match of the series, scoring a 48-ball 71. Although he received support from Gulshan Jha (26) and Aarif Sheikh (12), it wasn’t enough.

Obed McCoy and Gudakesh Motie took two wickets each, while Oshane Thomas and Roston Chase bagged a wicket apiece for the visitors.

The third match of the series will be played on Wednesday.
