West Indies A defeats Nepal by 28 runs; takes unassailable 3-1 series lead

KATHMANDU: West Indies A has taken an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match T20 series against Nepal, beating the hosts by 28 runs at the TU International Cricket Ground on Thursday.

Batting first, West Indies A posted 209 runs for the loss of three wickets. In reply, Nepal was bundled out for 181 runs.

Although West Indies A lost its first wicket in the second over of the match, Johnson Charles and Andre Fletcher built a solid partnership for the second wicket in a row, adding 92 runs. Fletcher remained not out at 84 runs from 54 balls, while Charles scored a 30-ball 58. Fabian Allen scored an unbeaten 33 off 19 balls.

Kushal Bhurtel took two wickets for Nepal, while Pratish GC had a wicket to his name.

Nepal made a poor start with the bat in its chase of the third 200-plus score in four matches of the series. Aasif Sheikh was out for a duck, while the other opener Kushal Bhurtel scored 1 off 5 balls. Rohit Paudel played a captain’s knock yet again, scoring 82 runs off 47 balls. Sandeep Jora, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Gulshan Jha all scored 19 off 14 balls, while Abinash Bohara remained unbeaten at 17, and Sompal Kami scored a run-a-ball 10.

Matthew Forde and Hayden Walsh took three wickets each, while Fabian Allen and Gudakesh Motie contributed two wickets each.

The fifth match of the series will be played on Saturday.
