KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has requested the CPN-UML to reconsider its decision to withdraw from the Koshi Province Government.
Speaking to reporters at Biratnagar Airport on Friday, Dr Koirala said concerted efforts were being made to persuade the UML to rejoin the government. “We are working actively to make a consensus government in the province,” he added.
Kedar Karki, who is close to the anti-establishment faction of the NC led by Dr. Koirala, was appointed Chief Minister of Koshi Province on October 14 with the support of the UML. Although the UML initially participated in Karki’s government, it withdrew after Karki appointed provincial assembly members from CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) to his cabinet.
UML, however, has not yet withdrawn its support for Karki’s government. If the party decides to withdraw its support, the Koshi Province Assembly will be forced into mid-term elections.
