WCL 2: UAE defeat Oman by 54 runs

KATHMANDU: UAE defeated Oman by 54 runs to record a second straight victory over the fellow Gulf side in the ongoing ICC World Cricket League (WCL) 2 tri-series in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss in a match reduced to 47 overs due to a wet outfield, UAE scored 308 runs for the loss of eight wickets. In reply, Oman were all out for 254 runs in 39.5 overs.

UAE had earlier defeated Oman by 25 runs in the first meeting between the two sides in the ongoing tri-series.

UAE made a brisk start with the bat as all four of their top-order batters scored half-centuries. Openers Aryansha Sharma and Adeeb Usmani scored 50 and 72, respectively, while Harpreet Singh made 77 and Muhammad Shahdad contributed 74. Other batters, including captain Muhammad Waseem, however, failed to reach double digits.

Muhammad Imran claimed three wickets for Oman, while Nadeem Khan picked up two, and Aryan Bisht and Shakeel Ahmed chipped in with a wicket each.

Chasing 309, Oman lost their top three batters for just 26 runs within the fifth over. Captain Jatinder Singh, who scored a magnificent century against Nepal, was out for nine, while Pruthvikumar Machhi scored four and Ashish Odedara was dismissed for a duck. Hammad Mirza and Aryan Bisht then resurrected the Omani innings. Mirza scored 83 off 82 balls, while Bisht made 27 from 32 balls. Although Jiten Ramanandi scored a not-out 91 off just 62 balls, he did not receive support from the other end. Apart from Wasim Ali (12), the other Omani tailenders failed to reach double digits.

Junaid Siddique picked up six wickets for UAE, while Muhammad Shahdad claimed two and Muhammad Jawadulah contributed one.

Nepal will take on Oman in the final match of the tri-series on Tuesday.
