Ward chair reaches Israel for employment via Thailand Ward Chairman Gopali

KATHMANDU: Hera Man Gopali, Ward-1 Chairman of Thaha Municipality in Makwanpur, has arrived in Israel for employment through an illegal channel.

Gopali, who is a returnee from Israel, entered the country through Thailand about a week ago.

Bharat Gopali, the deputy mayor of Thaha Municipality, informed Himal Press over the phone that Hera Man had left for Thailand about a month ago. “He told us he was going to Thailand to attend a program. We have now learned that he has reached Israel. We don’t have any more information,” Gopali stated.

Ward Chairman Hera Man, elected from CPN (Maoist Center), was also serving as the spokesperson for the municipality.

The government ceased issuing labor approvals for Israel after the escalation of the Hamas-Israel conflict in October.

Despite this, recruitment companies are sending workers to Israel through countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. Recruitment companies are reported to charge as much as Rs 2 million per person, promising earnings of up to Rs 300,000 per month.
