Ward chair held in connection to election day murder of UML leader in Bajura Ward Chairperson Juddha Bahadur Aidi

KATHMANDU: Police have made three arrests, including a ward chairperson, in connection to the murder of UML’s student leader Chetan Aidi in Bajura.

Aidi’s family members had registered a complaint at the police office, naming Juddha Bahadur Aidi, chairperson of Ward-7 of Tribeni Municipality, and 21 others as the murderers.

Leaders and cadres of CPN-UML and Nepali Congress had clashed when voting was underway on November 20. Family members say the gang took Chetan Aidi, who was resting in his home after the election and murdered him.

“We arrested the three, including ward chairperson, two days ago. The investigation is underway,” Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Bajura, Surya Thapa, said.

Vote counting in the district, which had been affected because of the incident, resumed on Thursday.

UML had boycotted an all-party meeting called on Wednesday to forge consensus on vote counting, stating that it won’t attend any meeting until Aidi’s murderers are arrested.
