Vice-Presidential Election: Silence period commences from Tuesday midnight

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the silence period for the Vice Presidential election will begin at Tuesday midnight.

This period, which is required by law, starts 48 hours prior to voting day and will continue until the polling centers close. During this time, no election-related publicity or promotional activities are permitted.

The election for the Vice President is scheduled to take place on March 17. The Election Commission issued a code of conduct for the election on March 1, which will be in effect until March 19. This code of conduct is in accordance with Clause 22 of the Election Commission Act, 2017.

The purpose of the election silence period is to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and safe manner, according to EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel,

Four candidates, Astalaxmi Shakya (Bohara), Pramila Kumari Yadav, Mamata Jha, and Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, filed their nominations for the Vice Presidential election. However, Pramila Kumari Yadav has withdrawn her candidacy and announced her support for Ram Sahay Prasad.
