KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has deferred its verdict on a set of writ petitions challenging the appointment of 52 officials to different constitutional commissions until July 2.
A full bench of Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut and Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Manoj Kumar Sharma, Dr Kumar Chudal and Dr Nahakul Subedi decided to defer the verdict.
Supreme Court Spokesperson Nirajan Pandey said that the verdict, originally scheduled for June 11, will now be delivered on July 2.
The government had appointed 52 individuals to constitutional bodies in two phases through ordinances in 2020 and 2021. A total of 15 writ petitions challenged the decision in the Supreme Court, arguing that the appointments made via ordinance were unconstitutional.
The final hearing on the petitions concluded on May 15.
