Urmila Aryal elected National Assembly vice chair

KATHMANDU: Urmila Aryal of CPN (Maoist Center) has been elected Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly unopposed.

Aryal, who has served as the minister and minister of state from CPN-UML, had joined Maoist Center some nine years ago. She is currently the standing committeee member of the party.

Before joining the Maoist Center, she worked with the party school, women and agriculture departments of the UML.

She joined left movement by taking membership of the student wing of Nepal Communist Party in the 1970s. Aryal joined UML after the political change of 1990.

The veteran Communist leader was elected to the House of Representatives from Parsa-4 cosntitutency in 1999. She was defeated in Parsa-4 in 1991 and 1994 polls.

Aryal, who holds a Masters degree in Sociology, is pursuing her PhD.
