Unified Socialist won’t quit ruling coalition: Dahal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal with Koshi Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has insisted that the CPN (Unified Socialist) will not quit the ruling coalition.

Talking to reporters at Biratnagar Airport on Sunday, Dahal said Unified Socialist Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal is for strengthening the ruling coalition. “I held a conversation with Chairperson Nepal this morning. He made it clear that he is for continuing in the ruling coalition,” he added.

Dahal’s comment comes at a time when the Nepali Congress (NC) is trying to solicit support from other political parties, including the Unified Socialist, to form a government in Madhesh Province. NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba invited leaders of the Unified Socialist, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSP Nepal), and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) on Wednesday evening to solicit their support for government formation in Madhesh Province.

The government of Madhesh Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav has fallen into a minority after the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN-UML withdrew their support. This requires Chief Minister Yadav to undergo a floor test within 30 days of the withdrawal of support.

A meeting of the Madhesh Province Assembly has been called for June 3 for the trust vote process.
