KATHMANDU: CPN-UML’s candidate Suhang Nembang is leading his close contestant, Dambar Bahadur Khadka of Nepali Congress, by over 4,000 votes in the by-election for the Ilam-2 seat of the House of Representatives.
After the completion of the vote count in four local units – Phakphokthum, Chulachuli and Mangsebung rural municipalities, and Mai Municipality, Suhang has received 13,069 votes, while Khadka has got 8,386 votes.
Three wards of Mai Municipality fall under the Ilam-2 constituency.
Currently, the votes of Deumai Municipality are being counted.
Independent candidate Dakendra Thegim is third with 8,098 votes, while Milan Limbu of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is in the fourth position with 1,713 votes.
Out of 115,889 eligible voters in Ilam-2, 69,287 cast their votes in the by-election held on Saturday.
