KATHMANDU: The Koshi Provincial Committee of the Nepali Congress has recommended seven aspirants for the by-polls in the Ilam-2 seat of the House of Representatives.

Uddhab Thapa, president of the provincial committee of the Nepali Congress, said he has forwarded the names sent by the Ilam District Committee to the center. “We have forwarded the names sent to us by the district committee. The final decision of selecting the candidate now rests with the center,” Thapa said.

Bhesh Raj Acharya is at the top of the list, followed by Keshav Thapa and Dambar Khadka. Acharya is a Mahasamiti member of the NC, while Gautam is a former lawmaker. Khadka is the President of the Ilam District Committee of the NC.

According to a member of the Ilam District Committee, the district committee forwarded names received from the Ilam-2 constituency committee to the provincial committee.

Other names recommended by the provincial committee include Nagendra Kumal, Ramesh Lingden, Chandra Maya Limbu, and Chandra Kala Rai.

The UML has already decided to field Suhang Nembang in the by-election in Ilam-2. Suhang is the youngest son of former UML Vice Chairperson Subash Chandra Nembang.

The Ilam-2 seat of the House of Representatives became vacant with the demise of Vice Chairperson Nembang in September last year.
