KATHMANDU: CPN-UML’s Lila Kumari Bhandari has been elected as the Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly.
National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal announced in the meeting of the upper house on Monday that Bhandari was elected to the position unopposed.
She replaces Bimala Ghimire, who completed her six-year term on March 4.
Only Bhandari had filed her nomination for the position between 2:30 pm and 2:30 pm on Sunday as per the election schedule published by the Federal Parliament Secretariat. Bhandari’s nomination was proposed by Prem Prasad Dangal, UML’s parliamentary party leader in the upper house, while Krishna Bahadur Rokaya of Nepali Congress and Puja Chaudhary of Janata Samajbadi Party(JSP) Nepal and Madar Kumari Shah of CPN (Unified Socialist) were the seconders.
Bhandari, who started her political career from the CPN (Maoist), was elected to the National Assembly in the election held on January 25 from Sudurpashchim Province.
