KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has formally notified the Federal Parliament Secretariat of its decision to withdraw support from the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government.
“The CPN-UML was participating in the government led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. However, in light of initiatives to form a new government based on national consensus to provide political stability, we have withdrawn our support to the government from July 3. We have already informed the Honorable Prime Minister of this decision, and hereby notify that our party, CPN-UML, will now be in opposition in the parliament,” reads a letter written by CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula.
UML and Nepali Congress reached an agreement on Monday to form a new government. The two parties have formally requested Prime Minister Dahal to step down and pave the way for a new government.
However, Prime Minister Dahal has been stating that he would exercise his constitutional right and face the parliament.
As per the constitution, Dahal will have to undergo a floor test within 30 days of the withdrawal of support.
