Uddab Thapa will become Koshi’s chief minister: Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee Member Dr. Shekhar Koirala has expressed confidence in that the new government in Koshi Province will be formed under the leadership of Uddhab Thapa.

Speaking to reporters at Biratnagar Airport on Friday, Koirala said he was confident that Thapa, who is the caretaker chief minister and parliamentary party leader of NC in the Koshi Province Assembly, will become the next chief minister.

Koirala also stated that the Supreme Court has validated his statement that it was wrong for Speaker Babu Ram Gautam to sign the claim to form the government in the province.

The Supreme Court on Thursday invalidated the coalition government led by Thapa, ruling that it is unconstitutional to use the Speaker’s signature for government formation.

Additionally, Koirala mentioned that the party will hold a policy convention on the sidelines of the Mahasamiti meeting.
