Two arrested for extorting Rs 600,000 posing as DSP of Nepal Police

KATHMANDU: Two individuals have been arrested for defrauding people by posing as the Nepal Police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Gyan Bahadur Lama from Chauri Deurali-8 of Kavre and Rewati Ojha from Panchghare in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-4 of Sunsari allegedly extorted Rs 600,000 by claiming to be DSP of Nepal Police and promising to resolve a case for a person in police custody, according to Apil Raj Bohora, the spokesperson for District Police Range, Kathmandu.

“The two were arrested based on a complaint registered by the victim,” Bohora added.

Both have been remanded for five days by the Kathmandu District Court for further investigation.

According to police, Gyan Bahadur had previously served a five-year sentence for an offense related to arms and ammunition in 2014. Police records also show cases filed against him for public offense in 2013 and for gambling-related offenses in 2010.
