KATHMANDU: Conservation workers have begun monitoring a trouble-making male elephant named Dhrube which roams Chitwan National Park (CNP) and surrounding areas.
A joint team of veterinary technicians, security personnel and national park officials radio-collared Dhrube after the tusker started entering human settlements repeatedly.
In a joint initiative of Chitwan National Park (CNP) Office, Nepal Army, and the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), conservation workers darted Dhrube near the Subkebhar checkpost of the CNP, trimmed its tusks, and fitted it with a radio collar.
The team was led by Senior Veterinary Doctor of CNP, Dr. Bijaya Kumar Shrestha.
Now that Dhrube has been radio-collared, it will be easier to monitor its movements, according to the NTNC Office in Sauraha. Conservation workers say Dhrube has claimed over one and a half dozen lives.
