Three injured as locals clash with police in Dhanusha

KATHMANDU: A clash erupted between the police and locals in Paudesar of Aurahi Rural Municipality-1 in Dhanusa on Thursday afternoon after a dispute over love affairs took an ugly turn.

Police intervened after a group staged a protest by obstructing the road. However, police had to use force after the protesting youth attacked police personnel by pelting stones. Two personnel of Nepal Police and one of the Armed Police Force were injured in the incident. Police have arrested five individuals on the charge of inciting youth for violent activities.

“Police fired five rounds of teargas shells to take the situation under control,” DSP Ranjan Awal said.

According to Awal, the incident occurred after two couples, who were said to be in love, fled the village a few days ago. Their whereabouts remain uncertain.

Parents of the two girls filed a complaint at the District Police Office, Dhanusha, a few days ago, claiming that their minor girls were forced to elope. Based on the complaint, police have arrested five individuals for investigation.

Relatives of the girls obstructed the road on Thursday to put pressure on the police to ascertain the whereabouts of the two girls.
