Three dead as landslide buries house in Palpa

KATHMANDU: Three members of a family died after a landslide buried their house and cattle shed in Mathagadhi Rural Municipality of Palpa district on Sunday morning.

The landslide occurred at around 4 a.m. Mathagadhi-3, following incessant rainfall, police said.

A joint rescue team involving personnel from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police began the search after receiving information that three people had been missing.

The body of 75-year-old Lil Bahadur Gharti Magar was recovered at around 10:45 a.m.

Rescuers later recovered the bodies of his 17-year-old daughter, Dina Gharti Magar, and 15-year-old Jharna Gharti, daughter of Molilal Gharti, at around 2 p.m.

The bodies have been sent to Palpa District Hospital for postmortem examinations.

Several other houses in the area are also reportedly at risk from the landslide, police said.
