KATHMANDU: Three people have lost their lives in eastern Nepal due to floods caused by continuous rainfall.

Deputy Inspector General Kuber Kadayat, who is also the spokesperson for the Nepal Police, confirmed the casualties, stating that 29 individuals have gone missing in Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, and other districts in eastern Nepal.

In Panchthar, one person has been reported dead, while five others remain missing. As many as 12 bridges have been washed away in the floods, while few others were damaged. Additionally, six houses have been washed away, and two hydropower projects have suffered damage.

Similarly, in Sankhuwasabha district, one person has died, and 21 individuals are missing. Kadayat mentioned that three people have been rescued in Sankhuwasabha.

The Chief District Officer of Sankhuwasabha, Shiva Kumar Karki, stated that 17 of the missing persons are workers involved in the construction of the Super Hewakhola Hydropower Project.

Likewise, in Taplejung, one person has been reported dead, and three others are missing.

DIG Kadayat said that a search and rescue operation is currently underway to locate the missing individuals.
