Thousands participate in KMC’s Skill Fair

KATHMANDU: Youths have congregated at the Tundikhel open grounds in Kathmandu to participate in the Skills Fair 2024 organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

KMC has included a program to train and employ 2,081 youths as one of its 10 national pride programs in the current fiscal year. Through the program, the KMC plans to provide training in 34 different sectors.

Subodh Subedi, a BSc third-year student at Tribhuvan University, said he has applied for software development training. “I submitted my application with the hope that I will be able to land a job after the training,” Subedi, who hails from Dhading district, told Himal Press.

Likewise, Savita Ghimire has applied for tailoring and fashion design training. “I plan to start my own business after completing the training,” she added.

Osika Gautam, a BA fourth-year student at Ratnarajya Laxmi Campus, said she has applied for Chinese and Indian Cooking training. “If I get the training now, I won’t have to worry about finding a job after completing my study. Since KMC has promised a job for the best trainees, I am hopeful of landing a job as well,” she added.

KMC Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol said the training and employment program is targeting people in the 18-60 age group. “Our plan is to provide free skills training to 15,000 people in the current fiscal year. Some 5,000 of them will get employment opportunities after completion of the training,” she added.

The training period spans from 90 to 120 days.
