KATHMANDU: Sudurpashchim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has dismissed three CPN-UML ministers and one minister of state.
Shah removed Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Surendra Bahadur Pal, Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Bir Bahadur Thapa, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Hira Sarki, and Minister of State for Physical Infrastructure Development Nirmala Devi Saud, stating that the UML ministers had failed to support the budget for the fiscal year 2026/27 despite being part of the ruling coalition.
Shah summoned the UML ministers on Wednesday and sought clarification on the party’s position regarding the budget before taking the decision.
The CPN-UML had expressed dissatisfaction with the budget ever since it was presented on June 15. UML lawmakers had also registered a proposal in the provincial assembly seeking amendments to the budget.
The Sudurpashchim government has allocated a budget of Rs 37.70 billion for the new fiscal year which begins on Friday.
Opposition from the ruling coalition itself prevented the budget from being tabled in the provincial assembly for 22 days. Although the budget was eventually tabled on July 7, no progress has been made beyond a preliminary discussion.
