Sudan Kirati quits PDP

KATHMANDU: Sudan Kirati, a member of the presidium of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from his position

Writing a post on his social media page, Kirati said he won’t even be a general member of the party.

Kirati left the CPN (Maoist Center) after the party decided to merge with CPN (Unified Socialist) and over half a dozen other leftist forces to form the Nepali Communist Party (NCP). He, together with some Maoist Center leaders, then joined the PDP, which was formed at the initiative of former Maoist and Naya Shakti Nepal leader Baburam Bhattarai some five months ago.

“I have internalized the experience gained during this period as an invaluable asset. Although my formal association with the organization has come to an end, I am confident that mutual respect, goodwill, and cordial relations will continue in the days ahead,” Kirati wrote in the statement. “I also pledge that, carrying the trust of the people and the unfulfilled dreams of the martyrs in my heart, I will not step back from the path of serving the nation and its people, dedication, and social transformation under any circumstances.”

Since Kirati supported some candidates of the Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP) in the March 5 elections, there are speculations that Kirati could join the Harka Sampang-led party.

Is Sudan Kirati joining Sampang-led SSP?
