KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has received permission to keep former Managing Director of Nepal Telecom, Sunil Paudel, and former Executive Director of Security Printing Center, Bikal Paudel, who were arrested on corruption charges, in custody for 21 more days.

The Special Court on Sunday remanded the two to CIAA custody for 21 more days. CIAA had arrested them on January 24.

They have been accused of misappropriating public property and transferring property to foreign countries even after being implicated.

While Sunil has been accused of financial irregularities in the procurement of the national payment gateway, Bikal has been accused of corruption in the procurement of security printing press.

According to CIAA, the two siphoned money out of the country by opening bank accounts in a foreign country.

CIAA is seeking to recover Rs 230 million from Sunil and others implicated in the case, and Rs 690 million from Bikal and eight others.
