Six arrested for involvement in Balaju hooliganism

KATHMANDU: District Police Range Kathmandu arrested six individuals for allegedly engaging in vandalism on Sunday in the Balaju area of Kathmandu.

The suspects include Bikram Rai from Udayapur, Ramhari Bhandari from Tokha, Kathmandu, Bibek Shrestha from Lamjung, Rajesh Tamang from Kavre, Dipendra Pun Magar from Pyuthan, and Ashish Khadka from Kavre.

The transport workers’ protest on Sunday turned violent with protestors setting two police cars on fire, and damaging communication sets, megaphones, and other equipment in the vehicles, according to the police.

The police made the suspects public following widespread criticism of their inaction during Sunday’s incident. The House of Representatives members also condemned the police’s lack of action during a meeting of parliament on Wednesday.

The police are preparing to file charges against the suspects under Clause 285 of the Nepal Penal Code, 2017. All six individuals have been remanded into police custody for three days.
