KATHMANDU: Six Armed Police Force (APF) personnel were injured in a clash with a group of smugglers in Gobarahia in Ward-2 of Bideha Municipality of Dhanusha on Thursday.
According to DSP Shailendra Thapa, joint spokesperson for the APF, the incident occurred when a joint team from APF Battalion No. 8 in Dhanusha and the proposed Border Outpost in Mahinathpur was deployed to investigate a tip-off regarding smuggled goods hidden in the area. During the search operation, the team recovered a motorcycle believed to be used for smuggling.
As the search continued in a nearby shed, a group of around 100 to 150 individuals, reportedly hiding in the area, attacked the police team using stones and homemade weapons. The assault left six APF personnel injured.
“Our personnel fired 13 rounds of tear gas and four rounds into the air to disperse the crowd,” Thapa said.
Three injured officers are receiving treatment at Madhesh Provincial Hospital in Janakpur. The condition of the remaining three is normal, Thapa said.
