KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha held bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday.
Although the two countries are yet to issue an official press statement, the foreign ministry has stated that the two leaders assessed the state of bilateral relations and expressed commitment to further elevate ties. The ministry wrote in a social media post that the two leaders emphasized the swift implementation of projects.
According to foreign ministry officials, the Chinese side has assured that stalled Chinese projects would gain momentum and that Chinese assistance would continue for Nepal’s development.
Shrestha, the senior vice chairperson of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center), and Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), also discussed cooperation between the two political parties, according to officials.
On Tuesday morning, Shrestha visited a Chinese hospital to inquire about his health condition. He had suffered a mild heart attack during his visit to Beijing last year. Later, Shrestha delivered a lecture on investment at the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing.
Shrestha, who is on a nine-day visit to the northern neighbor, met with Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau, on Monday. He is also scheduled to visit the touristic city of Chongqing as well as the Kailash Mansarovar region of Tibet.
