KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has insisted that the 15th General Convention of the party should be held on time.
Speaking at the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, which began at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Monday, Koirala said the party leadership should given a satisfactory answer why the general convention cannot be held as per the schedule.
He also sought an update from party President Sher Bahadur Deuba on the progress in constitutional amendment, which has been included in a seven-point agreement reached with CPN-UML.
“We were in an alliance with CPN (Maoist Center) in the 2022 federal and provincial elections. Now we are in government with the UML. Why did we partner with the Maoists then, and why the UML now?” he asked. “I personally supported an NC-UML coalition, but I had said NC should lead that government. So why did the party hand over government leadership to the UML?”
Koirala also asked the party leadership to explain why NC leaders were forced to support candidates of other parties in constituencies where the party enjoyed its stronghold. He also questioned on what grounds industrialist Binod Chaudhary was nominated as the Central Working Committee member.
He also criticized the party leadership for the failure of the sister organizations to hold general conventions as per the schedule.
