Shalikram Jammakattel appointed Chief Minister of Bagmati Province

KATHMANDU: Shalikram Jamakattel has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province.

Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma appointed Jammakattel as the Chief Minister as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015.

Jammakattel is the fourth chief minister of Bagmati Province after Dormani Poudel, Astalaxmi Shakya and Rajendra Pandey. He has secured the support of 70 assembly members. Twenty-seven assembly members of CPN-UML, 13 of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, seven of CPN (Unified Socialist) and two members of Hamro Nepal Party have supported Jammakattel.

Parties need to have the support of 56 members to form government in the Bagmati Province Assembly.

Jammakattel was elected to the province assembly from Dhading-1(B) constituency. He previously served in the Bagmati Province Government as Minister for Financial Affairs in the Dormani Poudel-led government, and Minister for Internal Affairs and Law in the Rajendra Pandey-led government.
