ITAHARI: The Koshi Province Assembly Secretariat on Friday unanimously elected chairpersons for seven parliamentary committees.
With this, House committees in the provincial assembly have finally taken shape, 21 months after the provincial assembly election. Although the committees were formed on November 6 last year, the election of chairpersons had been pending.
The CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) have secured chairpersons for three committees each, while the main opposition, CPN (Maoist Center), has been given the leadership of the Public Accounts Committee.
According to the Koshi Province Assembly Secretariat, Kamala Darnal has been elected as Chairperson of the Law, Justice, and Legislation Committee, while Khageshwari Paudyal will head the Good Governance and Planning Committee. Similarly, Binod Rai, Rajan Kiranti, and Gayananda Mandal Gangai have been elected as chairpersons of the Finance Committee, Public Accounts Committee, and Social Development Committee, respectively.
Likewise, Ramdev Yadav has been elected as Chairperson of the Industry, Tourism, and Environment Committee, while Hom Bahadur Thapa is the new chairperson of the Natural Resources and Infrastructure Development Committee.
Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected chairpersons during a ceremony on Friday evening.
