KATHMANDU: The Government of India has built a school and hotel building for Shree Sharada Secondary School in Rawa Besi Rural Municipality of Khotang.
San Bahadur Rai, chief of the District Coordination Committee; Phatik Kumar Shrestha, chairperson of Rawa Besi Rural Municipality; and Suman Shekhar, first secretary at the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, jointly inaugurated the building amid a colorful ceremony on Thursday.
The school and hostel building was constructed with the Indian government’s financial assistance of Rs 36.10 million under ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’. Government officials, social workers, representatives of the school management committee, teachers, parents, students and the local people were present in the inauguration ceremony, according to a press statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
The Indian government’s assistance was utilized for the construction of a double-storied school building, hostel building and procurement of furniture for both buildings.
The project was taken up as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), earlier known as Small Development Projects, and was implemented by the District Development Committee, Khotang.
Since 2003, the Indian government has taken up over 550 HICDPs in Nepal in various sectors and has completed 488 projects. “Amongst these, 85 projects are in Koshi Province in various sectors. In addition to these, the Government of India has gifted 974 ambulances and 234 school buses to various hospitals, health posts and educational institutions in Nepal on the occasion of Independence Day and Republic Day of India,” the embassy added in the statement.
