KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a temporary interim order to the government, instructing it not to implement its decision to distribute Rs 200,000 each to disqualified Maoist combatants.

A single bench of Justice Kumar Regmi Tuesday directed the government to refrain from executing the working procedure for the distribution of financial assistance to disqualified combatants until a final verdict is passed.

Advocate Gyanendra Aran and others challenged the government’s decision in the apex court, arguing that the country’s economy is currently experiencing a severe crisis and that the government brought the work procedure, and that there is no such provision in the constitution and law. They have made the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, among other agencies, defendants in the case.

The bench has asked both parties to attend the final hearing on May 22.

The petitioners have requested the annulment of the work procedure and the government’s decision to distribute financial assistance to disqualified combatants.
