KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order directing the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to resume garbage collection from Singha Durbar premises, Office of the President, and other government offices.
A single bench of Justice Prakashman Singh Raut issued the order hearing a writ petition filed on Monday by Advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha.
According to the order, KMC must resume garbage collection within three days of receiving the verdict. KMC Mayor Balen Shah took to social media last week, stating that KMC would stop collecting garbage from Singha Durbar premises and other government offices due to the federal government’s lack of cooperation in addressing garbage management problems.
The Ministry of Urban Development has assigned the task of collecting garbage to a private firm named Parivartan Sewa Pvt Ltd. The company had stopped collecting garbage from Sunday, following instruction of the KMC.
