KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a short-term interim order staying the immediate enforcement of an arrest warrant issued against Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Abhishek Pratap Shah.
A single bench of Justice Abdul Aziz Musalman ordered that the arrest warrant issued against Shah be kept in abeyance for the time being.
Shah has been accused of attacking Sitaram Sharma, president of the Krishnanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and attempting to kill him. Based on a complaint filed by Sharma, the Kapilvastu District Court had authorized police to arrest Shah to investigate allegations of attempted murder.
The apex court issued the order on Wednesday in the names of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Kapilvastu District Court and the District Police Office, Kapilvastu.
The court has also summoned both sides for discussions before deciding whether to continue the interim order.
