KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has upheld the Election Commission’s decision to recognize the Central Working Comittee of the Nepali Congress (NC) elected by the party’s Special General Convention held in January.
A division bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Nripadhwaj Niraula late Friday evening dismissed the petition filed by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and former vice president Purna Bahadur Khadka.
Khadka and other NC leaders had knocked the apex court’s doors after the Election Commission recognized the new Central Working Committee led by Gagan Kumar Thapa on January 16.
During initial hearing in the petition on January 20, a bench of Justice Sunil Kumar Pokharel had refused to issue order against the EC’s decision and ordered the defendants to submit written explanations within 15 days why interim order should not be issued as demanded by the petitioners.
