Saroj Yadav of JSP appointed Chief Minister of Madhesh Province

JANAKPURDHAM: Saroj Yadav of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province Government.

Province Chief Harishankar Mishra appointed Yadav as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015. Mishra had given parties until Thursday to make a claim to government formation in the province.

Yadav has the support of the seven-party ruling coalition formed at the center. Two independent assembly members Surita Sah and Anirudhha Singh have also supported Yadav.

The coalition has reached an understanding to allow JSP and Janamat Party to lead the province government on rotating basis. As per the understanding, JSP will lead the province government for two and a half years before handing over the reins of the government to Janamat Party.

JSP also led the first government in the province formed after the 2017 election.
