KATHMANDU: ‘Sankata Ko Dhun’ a short documentary on the fans of Sankata Club, an ‘A’ division side, was premiered amid a ceremony at Tebahal in Kathmandu recently.
Tebahal is the historic home of the Sankata Club.
The premiere was attended by a few hundred people, including fans, club officials, journalists, and well-wishers. The documentary was produced by Bhakundo Media & Management Pvt Ltd.
The existence of fan culture in Nepali football has been a topic of debate. While some argue that clubs have not done enough, others question the willingness of fans to get involved. There are also some who question the stakeholders’ efforts to attract fans and create a vibrant atmosphere.
While the size and scale of fan culture in Nepali football may be limited, there are clubs like Sankata Club which have a dedicated and passionate fan base.
However, very little has been published in the media or brought to the public eye regarding this culture.
Speaking after the premiere, Gaurav Phuyal, CEO of Bhakundo Media & Management Pvt Ltd, said that they have tried a new thing in Nepali sports. “We expect suggestions and we’ll keep learning, getting better, and bringing more of these to sports fans in the country. They deserve more of this,” he added.
