Sampang warns against altering constitution’s fundamental structure

KATHMANDU: Sharam Sanskriti Party (SSP) Chairperson Harka Raj Rai (Sampang) has warned that any attempt to tamper with the fundamental structure of the constitution could invite serious problems.

Speaking during the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, Sampang said that while other provisions of the constitution can be amended, its basic structure must remain intact. He cautioned that arbitrary changes could create grave consequences.

Stating that the opposition is an integral part of the government, essentially a government in waiting, Sampang said the party should take the opposition’s constructive suggestions positively.

He also underscored the need for detailed investigations into road and other accidents and urged the government to ensure basic education and information systems to minimize risks from natural disasters.

Criticizing the tendency to blame only the government for fertilizer shortages, he said Nepal should adopt policies to produce fertilizer at home instead of relying solely on imports.
