KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is holding conventions of its ward committees across the country on Sunday as part of its ongoing organizational restructuring ahead of the party’s first national general convention.

According to the party, conventions are being conducted in around 1,500 wards where ad hoc committees had been formed before May 3.

Sharnkar Shrestha, secretary of the party’s Organization Department, said ad hoc committees have so far been formed in around 3,000 wards nationwide. Of them, conventions in nearly half the wards were completed before and after the recent elections, while the remaining ward conventions are being held on Sunday.

The party has decided to complete ward conventions in two phases. For wards where ad hoc committees are formed before May 17, conventions will be held on May 30.

RSP has also scheduled municipal-level conventions in two phases on May 23 and May 31.

Likewise, the party has said that district conventions will be on June 6 and 7, while provincial conventions will be held between June 8 and June 15.

The party’s first central general convention will be held in Chitwan from June 21 to 23. The dates coincide with the fourth anniversary of the party’s formation.
