RSP Convention: First phase of voting concludes

KATHMANDU: The first phase of voting under the 1st General Convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has concluded.

According to the party’s Central Election Commission, voting, which began at midnight on Wednesday, concluded at 12:30 pm on Tuesday.

Minit Madhav Khanal, president of the RSP Chitwan District Committee, said that an estimated 2,950 votes were cast out of 4,100 delegates attending the party’s general convention.

The commission has said that the results will be announced soon, as voting was conducted through electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The delegates voted to elect 99 members to the party’s Central Committee. The remaining members of the 158-member Central Committee will be nominated by the President, as per the party statute.

In the second phase, the delegate will vote to elect office-bearers. According to the party, eight out of 19 office-bearers will be elected from amongst 99 Central Committee members, while the President will nominate the remaining 11. However, voting will be held for only seven positions as President has already been elected unopposed.

Founding President Rabi Lamichhane was elected unopposed on Tuesday.
