Returning officer removed for soliciting votes for UML candidate

KATHMANDU: A returning officer has been relieved of his responsibilities for soliciting votes for a candidate of CPN-UML.

Nabin Karki, who had been deputed at the Mahendra Basic School polling station in Malampar of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-5, has been relieved of his duties for violating the election code of conduct.

According to the Office of the Chief Election Officer, Myagdi, Karki had uploaded a photo of UML candidate Hari Krishna Shrestha on his Facebook page on Thursday morning, requesting people to vote for him.

The office had sought clarification from Karki after a complaint was filed against his activity. He was removed as the election office was not satisfied with his clarification.

Karki told the office that it happened because of ‘human error’.

According to the Office of the Chief Election Officer, the assistant returning officer deputed at the polling station, Bishnu Prasad Poudel, has been assigned the responsibility of the returning officer.
