KATHMANDU: The government has decided to implement a one-door system for the distribution of relief materials to the earthquake victims in Jajarkot and Rukum West.
The cabinet meeting held on Sunday took the decision. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, said the one-door system will make relief distribution more managed and effective. “Interested organizations, political parties, individuals, and aid agencies will be required to hand over their support to the government. The government will then efficiently allocate relief materials based on the specific needs of the affected areas,” he said, talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting.
Likewise, the government has decided to provide free medical treatment to the quake survivors. According to Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, the government has decided to extend free medical treatment to the earthquake survivors. “Regardless of the cost incurred, victims will not be burdened with any medical expenses,” Basent added, “I have proposed to extend this initiative to privately-owned hospitals as well.”
Meanwhile, government officials have said that the initial rescue operations for the earthquake victims have been completed. They have announced that the government will now focus on the distribution of food and relief materials starting this Sunday.
The government has designated the Karnali Provincial headquarters, Surkhet, as the primary hub for distributing relief aid to the survivors.
