China Foundation distributes solar lights to quake-affected children in Jajarkot

KATHMANDU: The China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) on Tuesday distributed solar lights to earthquake-affected children attending various community schools in Jajarkot district.

Issuing a statement, the CFRD Nepal Office said it distributed 1,000 solar lights to provide much-needed light and hope to children still recovering from the devastating earthquakes. “This strategic project is reflective of CFRD’s commitment to boosting education in areas affected by disasters. Students now have access to solar lights which have helped them continue study in disaster-hit areas where traditional power sources are rare,” the statement added.

According to the foundation, the objective of the initiative is to remove obstacles to education brought on by irregular power supplies in quake-hit areas. “The solar lights are not only environmentally friendly but also a cost-effective solution for communities facing energy challenges,” it added. “In addition to providing much-needed resources, the gift also represents a celebration of recovery and resilience as the Chinese Spring Festival comes near.”

Last month, the foundation distributed relief materials of 2,000 packages of daily-use household goods, food materials, and warm packs; 1,906 packages of food materials (12.5 kg of rice, 2 kg of Dal, and 1 liter of oil) and 366 Blankets and jackets to earthquake-affected children and families of Jajarkot and Rukum West districts, according to the statement.
