Rai stresses ambitious global partnerships for smooth graduation of LDCs

KATHMANDU: Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai has urged the international community to forge ambitious global partnerships to ensure the smooth and irreversible graduation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

Speaking as the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of LDCs at the High-Level Meeting on “Forging Ambitious Global Partnerships for Sustainable and Resilient Graduation of Least Developed Countries” in Doha, Rai highlighted the multiple challenges
including structural economic barriers, limited access to international markets, widening digital divides, resource constraints, and escalating climate-related impacts, that continue to impede progress in the world’s poorest nations.

He also addressed a session titled “High-level Ministerial Dialogue on strategic pathways for navigating sustainable graduation amid a challenging global development landscape and unlocking new opportunities.”

In his address, Rai outlined key sectors that hold significant transformative potential for Nepal—agriculture, hydropower, tourism, manufacturing, ICT, and human capital development. Rai said Nepal is eager to work closely with development partners, the UN system, and the broader international community to advance its graduation efforts.

Foreign Secretary Rai is in Doha on a three-day official visit to participate in the High-level Meeting jointly organized by the Government of Qatar and the UN Office of the High Representative for LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS (UN-OHRLLS).
