Rabi, Gagan trade barbs over cooperative fraud allegations

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, has challenged Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa to furnish proof of his involvement in cooperative frauds.

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament building on Friday, Lamichhane said he would quit politics if Gagan shows proof that he lodged an application to secure a loan from Suryadarshan Cooperatives. “Honorable member Gagan Thapa said he has proof that I sought a loan from the cooperative. If he indeed furnishes proof, I will quit politics,” Lamichhane said. “Otherwise, he should quit politics.”

In response, Thapa said that he would accept Lamichhane’s challenge. “I will quit politics if I fail to furnish proof,” Thapa told reporters outside the Parliament building.

Thapa reiterated that allegations against Lamichhane should be investigated by forming a parliamentary inquiry panel.

Nepali Congress proceedings on the first day of the budget session of the House of Representatives on Friday, demanding that the government form a parliamentary panel to probel allegations against Lamichhane.
